candyprather-prettydaisyCandy Prather is our featured artist for October. Beginning Saturday the 10th, her art will be displayed on our Mezzanine. We will have wine and cheese for you to enjoy with her art.

“Candy Prather and her husband are native Texans who have raised three children together and are enjoying numerous grandchildren. It is her fourth year to live in Rockwall who works full-time, has a small home studio, and enjoys painting in her spare time.

Candy has experienced painting with pencil, pastels, charcoal and oils, with her favorite medium being oils. She has been an apprentice to a well-known commercial artist and has taken local classes and workshops. Candy has exhibited locally at The Texas Roast, Candlelight & Lamposts, The Hilton Bella Harbor Fine Art Gallery and Rockwall Art League’s Annual Fall Art Show/Sale in 2007 and 2008. She is a member of the Rockwall Art League.

In 2003 Candy began the journey of visual art with pencils, pastel and charcoal. Two years later in 2005, she embarked on to painting with oils. Creating paintings that speak to the heart is her ambition. Candy’s art-work is a reflection of her spirit and a positive approach to life, with her passion being portraits and people. Depending upon His guidance, Candy’s inspiration comes from her love for God as she continues to study and develop her talent in painting.”

Road Construction
What an exciting time this is on the Square in Rockwall! For months we’ve been watching the progress on Highy 205 inch closer to the Square. They’re finally here! As I look out the front of our building I’m thrilled to se the antiquated, bumpy pavement on Goliad gone. The noisy, busy traffic has been moved. Shoppers can now cross Goliad safely. Once the new pavement is completed it will be beautiful. The crosswalks will be much safer without traffic coming at you from every direction. Our Towne Square is becoming a real viable destination for shopping and dining!

2nd Saturday on the Square
Saturday, September 12, 2009, we will inaugurate the monthly 2nd Saturday on the Square festivites. Our very first ‘festival’ will include a BBQ cook off, a poker stroll, a fun run and other activities. The various Fine Restaurants on the Square will have outdoor food booths to tempt our palates. It will be a fun fulled day!

Exciting plans are already on the table for several upcoming months, with each being a memorable time for you and your family.

Local Artists Featured at Candlelight & Lamposts
As many of you are aware, I’ve been associated with the art world for many years both in Dallas and Rockwall. We’ve found that our Rockwall community is home to many talented artists whose works have been on display in several diverse exhibits. I’m pleased to announce that our shop will host a rotating exhibit of local artists works beginning September 12th. Each 2nd Saturday we will introduce a different artist.

Our first spotlighted artist will be Sueretta Todd. Sueretta is very talented! You may have seen her works at various venues including the Belle Harbor.

These exhibits will give you and your family the opportunity to get acquainted with both the artists and their works.

Shopping & Dining on the Square
Such a pleasant shopping & dining experience can be had on the Square these days! As you stroll the sidewalks, you sense the aromas of gourmet foods cooking on wood fired grills. I get hungry just thinking about it. Once inside the various shoppes, you’re greeted personally by the friendly proprietors; soft music and the smell of scented candles fills the air. Many of the buildings have been preserved for over 100 years.

Summer Blowout Sale
There’s always sale racks at Candlelight & Lamposts. We’re currently clearing out all our summer wear - Mens Golf Shirts and Shorts, Ladies summer wear etc. We also have a very limited supply of Brighton accessories which have been discontinued and are now on sale. These items move quickly!

Rockwall, Texas Founder’s Day Festival 2009

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Founder’s Day is May 30

The Old Towne Shoppes on the Square will be hosting a wine tasting and Gallery Walk during Founders Day. This has become somewhat of a tradition each year on the square. The artists are all local and are being presented to us by the Rockwall Art League. The featured wine will be from Rockwall’s own San Martino Winery. This event is being called Sip n’ Stroll.

Sip n’ Stroll Details:

From 4-6 Saturday afternoon, eleven retail shoppes will be participating in the Sip n’ Stroll event. Eight of the shoppes will be showcasing a total of 15 local artists. Most of the artists are members of the Rockwall Art League.

All eleven of the shoppes participating in the Sip n’ Stroll will be serving cheeses, Hor D’oeuvres etc, many of which will be from Bella’s House (right here on the square).  Each shoppe will also have a different wine selection, all from San Martino Winery (just north of here on Hwy 205).

Candlelight & Lamposts will have Rio Raspberry Jalapeno Jelly served over Softened Cream Cheese on Crackers as well as Black Bean and Corn Salsa with Corn Chips. Maria Ramos is choosing a proper wine to serve with our appetizers.

Participating Artists:

Johnny Gomez, Dave Smithers, Sueratta Todd, Laura Antony, Janice Hamilton, Tammy Bowers, Carmen Wilkins, Yvonne Boltz, Darlene Dittoe, Darla Hill, Kathleen Finan, Helen Comeau, Dixie Bickerstaff, Tommie Ledford, Tyce McLarty, Betty Foster.

I’ve seen several of the artists works and we’re really in for a treat. Our little community of Rockwall has some very talented people.

Artists Featured at Candlelight & Lamposts:

-David Smithers has been learning the art of photography since he was a boy, when one of his teachers gave him a camera and said to go take some pictures. Dave’s creative photos reflect his interest in sports such as sky diving and sailing. He will wait all day to “capture the moment” when composition, light and shadow are perfect to convey a feeling. Dave runs Rockwall Sunsets Photography.

-Johnny Gomez spent his career as a commercial artist while practicing his art skills on canvas during his spare time. He is a devout Christian and that characteristic shows through in many of his paintings.
